On Jan. 17, President Trump presented the mock award ceremony called the “Fake News” award for news media that he believes made false reporting during his presidency and the 2016 election. Most of these stories are about Trump, his administration, and the suspected Russian collusion to win the election, which he claims to be a a theory made by the Democrats due to their loss of the election. Many talk show comedians mock the ceremony, people like Stephen Colbert, Trevor Noah, and Samantha Bee suggesting themselves as nominees. Even the reporters that were nominated themselves are making fun of it by saying they were glad to win that award. The winners of the awards were CNN, ABC News, Washington Post, New York Times, Time, and Newsweek.

Most people called the mock ceremony an attack on the freedom of the press under the First Amendment. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the event a “potential” one which means is unsure if it will happen, but we know it did happen.
